Chantale Thurston is a hearty Winnipegger and daytime accountant. During her free time, she is the board chair of AYA Can – Canadian Cancer Advocacy, which is a peer-led national charity that advocates for adolescents and young adults (AYA) affected by cancer. Chantale was diagnosed in 2017 with Stage IV Appendix Cancer and has thankfully been No Evidence of Disease since her HIPEC surgery in 2017. IG: @ChantaleT1
Nadine Frisk, BSW, is a Leukemia survivor and patient advocate. Her mission is to advocate for enhanced psychosocial support for cancer patients. She is a Patient Advisor and member of the CAPO Advocacy Committee.
Tristan Bilash, RSW, (he/him/human) is a stage 3C ovarian cancer survivor, transgender man, oncology social worker, writer, international speaker and inclusive health advocate. He is a national 2SLGBTQIA+ patient representative with CAPO's Advocacy Committee, a proud volunteer community partner with QueeringCancer.ca, and a friend and advisor to the World Ovarian Cancer Coalition. His story is featured in the journal article, “Spare Parts: Navigating Ovarian Cancer As A Transgender Man” which he co-authored with his friend and colleague, Dr. Lauren Walker (Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Oncology, Department of Psychology, University of Calgary). “Spare Parts” was recently published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology (Volume 40, Issue 9).

Sevtap Savas, PhD., is a patient advocate, cancer scientist, and professor of genetic and oncology at Memorial University, Newfoundland and Labrador. Her goal is to improve the well-being and social-medical outcomes of cancer patients through research, education, public engagement, patient partnership, advocacy, and leadership. She is the Chair of the Advocacy Committee of CAPO (Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology).
Kimberley Thibodeau, MSW/CFT, works as a couple and family therapist in PSO at the MUHC since the program was founded in 2008. Ms. Thibodeau has a Master of Social Work from McGill University, is a certified couple and family therapist and supervisor, and a registered psychotherapist. As a clinician, she provides psychosocial services to cancer patients and family members across the illness trajectory through individual, couple and family interventions. She is a recognized expert on the impact of cancer on patients and their family. Kimberley is a CAPO board member; acts as secretary, co-chair of the Clinical Advisory Committee and Advocacy Committee.
