2012 CAPO Call for Abstracts

The Canadian Association of Psychosocial Oncology (CAPO) is now accepting abstracts for posters, papers, and workshops for the 27th Annual Meeting to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia, April 25 – 28, 2012. The conference theme is Shifting Paradigms: New Directions in Psychosocial Oncology across the cancer trajectory – prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, post-treatment, palliative care.
Psychosocial oncology professionals in all disciplines are encouraged to submit abstracts. The conference will include adult and pediatric oncology, clinical practice, research, rehabilitation sciences and oncology education.
Conference objectives include:
- Exploring cancer care from the perspective of understanding human behavior, and the integration of biology and psychology
- Exploring the influence and perspectives from other areas of health, eg. mental health and chronic illness
- Building research capacity in psychosocial oncology
- Identifying best practices in clinical interventions, rehabilitation approaches and research in pediatrics and adult psychosocial oncology
- Learning about innovative programs and service delivery models, eg. health technology
- Learning about the use of complementary and alternative therapies in cancer care
- Offering opportunities for professional and community agency networking around survivorship issues

ABSTRACT GUIDELINES
Presentation Types:
- 90 minute workshops (interactive, experiential) *
- 20 minute individual oral presentation
- 90 minute symposium – Groups of 3 – 4 oral theme focused presentations
- Poster presentation
*Workshops should be interactive, include experiential components, and focus on skills or concepts that can be learned in a 90 minute session.
Word Limit: 250 words
To guide the review and selection process, you will be asked to identify the following:
Successful submissions will:
- Be relevant to conference theme
- Be applicable to the field of psychosocial oncology
- Be relevant to clinical practice
- Contribute to new knowledge
- Include evidence based content.
NOTIFICATION of ACCEPTANCE
All accepted abstracted will be notified by an email to the account recorded in the abstract submission form.
If your submission is accepted, you or a co-author will need to register for the conference to present your submission. If you elect to not attend, your presentation will be withdrawn. By submitting your abstract, you are granting CAPO permission to list your name and abstract in our program materials.
Regular conference fees apply to all presenters and co-presenters. As a charitable organization, we are not able to make exceptions.
STUDENT AWARDS
CAPO acknowledges excellence in research presentations by students. If you are a student and a first author on a selected presentation and wish to be considered for a student award, select the appropriate field on the abstract submission form.
There will be two student awards: Best Oral and Best Poster Presentations. Competition is open to full and part time students. Winners will be announced at the meeting.
